- About the Ower -
Owner Kate Schlenker first began her pastry career at very young age baking pastries for family and friends. Her interest in food continued through high school where she was encouraged to write a business plan, which was the inspiration to start her commercial bakery in 1987. With the support of her mother Karen, she attended college and developed her business. Kate graduated with a BS degree in Food Marketing & Distribution from Rochester Institute of Technologies school of Hospitality and Tourism Management. After completing college, she concentrated her efforts to grow her business by being an early identifier of the latest food trends and marketing new product lines ahead of local competitors. Her latest venture includes a line of made from scratch pot pies. Breaking away from solely running commercial business, NPP products are now available in retail outlets and many area farmer markets.
Kate’s culinary inspiration comes from her insatiable love for food. Her extensive recipe book collection is ever growing and a constant source for new flavors and concepts. Kate finds additional inspiration from sampling restaurants during travels both domestically and abroad. Sampling cuisine from all over allows her to get inspiration for spices and ingredients she might never have known about.
At home she’s fostered great relationships with fellow chefs around Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region whom she shares culinary sources for locally grown produce and humanly raised meats.
